Parker’s Fluid Systems Division (FSD) headquartered in Irvine, California, is focused on community service to transform its culture and provide more comprehensive support to charitable organizations.
Founded in 2018, FSD’s Together We Serve High-Performance Team has redefined the division’s approach to community service, resulting in increased team member engagement, holistic support to organizations and a deliberate effort to share the division’s culture around philanthropy.
The team's focus on philanthropy
Division HR Specialist Jennifer Perez championed the focus on FSD’s philanthropy efforts and leads the 10 team members who make up the Together We Serve HPT.
“Our site and many others across Parker are doing a lot of great things at work that benefits the community, from holiday food drives and backpack donations at the beginning of the school year, but we were missing an opportunity to really drive the culture around giving back.” Jennifer Perez
Perez sought to align local donation drives with the division’s Parker Foundation funding requests, as well as to expand service opportunities for Parker team members to go help out in the community. Together We Serve identifies service opportunities that fit within this expanded model and rallies colleagues around specific causes.
“We really want to wrap arms around charitable organizations supported by our foundation grants. Not just monetary donations, but also to show up and be there to serve.” Jennifer Perez
Beyond Parker Foundation funding, Together We Serve has also organized a number of service opportunities that align with team members’ philanthropic passions--such as helping pets in need or cleaning up local beaches – as well as those that align with the division’s business landscape, such as supporting military families.
Philanthropic enthusiasm is contagious
Division team members have responded with enthusiasm to this broadened philanthropic approach. Donation supply drive numbers have increased, and Perez and her team have noticed broader engagement, as many new faces are showing up to volunteer.
Perez has been deliberate about showcasing this engagement across the division with Parker-branded T-shirts for participants, sharing event photos and inviting family and friends to participate.
“When businesses do these things, they can be really transformative for employee culture. People are stepping up because their heart is in it,” she said. “It’s driving our culture here, and I think it’s a really good thing.” Jennifer Perez
Together We Serve has become so popular at the Irvine location, that Perez hopes to help expand the program to other FSD locations.
