Revolutionary development and collaboration
Perhaps just as revolutionary, however, was the method by which the GlobalCore line was developed and ultimately launched—a multi-year collaboration among three of Parker's global Fluid Connectors Group manufacturing facilities, in the U.S., Italy and Korea, as well as ongoing input from Parker technical experts from India, Mexico and China.

Continuous global collaboration
According to Gilbert, upwards of two dozen technical and business representatives from each location met in person every six months for a week at a time, with hosting duties rotating among the U.S., Italy, Korea and India. Topics ranged from suitable names for the unprecedented new offering to the intense technical challenges associated with having the hoses meet the differing requirements of every country in which they would be operating, including meeting the demands of agencies like ABS, DNV, Lloyd's, MSHA and USCG. Another technical challenge for the team was that the GlobalCore line would be designed, built and tested to exceed the relatively new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 18752 for hydraulic hose.

Seizing an opportunity
The genesis of the project flowed from the realization that, throughout the industry, hose manufacturers in each country tended to make products only meeting the standards of the local market. With Parker's global manufacturing footprint, standard processes and empowered employees, the Fluid Connectors Group knew they could achieve greater efficiencies and better serve the needs of our global customers by working together. The result of this focused collaboration is GlobalCore, a single hose family that can be used in any country where equipment is manufactured, as well as any country where end-users might put it into operation.

This level of simplicity and global availability is unprecedented, and with the GlobalCore line launched simultaneously in the U.S., Italy and Korea last September, interest from customers has indeed been high, especially in the oil & gas industry, as well as mobile construction, agriculture and other OEM machinery markets.
Now that the product has been launched, the team recognizes that in many ways their work is just beginning. They continue to manage the global product together, and are also making plans to further expand the benefits of the GlobalCore line by manufacturing it in India, China and Mexico as well. With early input from Parker experts in these countries, local qualifications have been proactively "built-in" to the hoses.
